Dr. Tabuenca is a licensed clinical and pediatric psychologist. She completed her doctorate with emphasis in Clinical Child Psychology at Loma Linda University, followed by a doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship in Pediatric Psychology at Yale University's Child Study Center. Throughout her training, Dr. Tabuenca has specialized in Cognitive and Behavioral treatments (CBT) for anxiety disorders, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for obsessive compulsive disorder, and the Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics/Tourette's (CBIT). She has further specialized in adapting interventions for children navigating medical systems due to chronic or acute illness and neurodiversity. Dr. Tabuenca is especially passionate about gender affirmative practice, and has extensive experience in supporting youth and their families through gender exploration, transitions, and finding unique ways to be their most authentic self.
Dr. Tabuenca has also held multiple academic positions, including a faculty appointment in Psychiatry at Stanford University, where she delivered clinical care and provided training and supervision for advanced trainees in inpatient psychiatry, the Stanford Anxiety Disorders Clinic, and the Stanford Pediatric and Adolescent Gender Clinic. These positions have allowed her to make meaningful contributions to the field of psychology and enriched her capacity to serve children and families in the community.
Dr. Tabuenca's practice emphasizes collaborative and individualized treatment approaches that are always grounded in Evidence-Based Practice. While she prioritizes individual work with the child, Dr. Tabuenca believes that parental involvement in therapy is essential for goals to be reached and change to be sustained. Intervention will not only involve teaching your child the tools they need, but working with the family to create a plan that integrates tools into everyday life and empowers parents to be better cheerleaders and coaches for their child!
